Volvo Trucks win Greenfleet LGV Manufacturer award

Care for the Environment is one of Volvo Trucks core values and the Award was made in recognition of the ongoing work done by the company in reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles.
The Award was presented to Volvo Trucks Marketing & PR Director Amanda Hiatt by Malcolm Harbour MEP and Alenka Burja representing Slovenia’s Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning in a ceremony which took place in Brussels during European Green Week.
Key reasons Volvo Trucks won the LGV Manufacturer of the Year 2008 Award, say the event’s organisers, included the ongoing work on its development of the I-SAM (Integrated Starter Alternator Motor) engine technology and the fact that the company has a range of engines which already comply with the Euro 5 emission standard using SCR Technology.
Volvo's hybrid concept, featuring I-SAM was presented at the Greenfleet trade event in Brussels last year, where participants were able to test-drive a bus with the hybrid drive fitted. This solution for heavy vehicles can accelerate under electric power alone, enabling lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and lower noise levels.
One of Sweden's leading waste management companies, Ragn-Sells, is running extensive tests on a Volvo FE hybrid drive refuse truck. Although initially targeting its hybrid technology for vehicles in urban operations, Volvo aims to eventually offer hybrid trucks for long-haul and construction applications and is leading the way in bringing cleaner LGV technology to market.
