Schillings returns to thrill on the Maldives
On 15 August 2009, internationally renowned French DJ Charles Schillings returns to the Maldives’ coolest resort, Huvafen Fushi, to treat guests to a third dose of his musical magic as part of the resort’s pioneering Dream Calendar.Guests can expect to be moved by an eclectic mix of melodic beats, electro funk, soul and groove, with touches of rock and classic 70s tunes.
With a career spanning almost two decades, Charles has played at the cream of clubs worldwide and is still one of the most in-demand French DJs today. As the latest icon in Huvafen Fushi’s Dream Calendar, Charles will present an incredible night of music, as guests sip Champagne and throw some shapes on the fine, white Maldivian sands.
The Dream Calendar has brought some of the world’s finest in music, cuisine, art and wellbeing to Huvafen Fushi’s shores, offering guests a series of one-of-a-kind experiences in the Maldives. The resort has previously hosted performances by Claude Challé and DJ Ravin, the artists behind the Buddha-bar album series, as well as José Padilla from the sun-drenched Café Del Mar albums.
Drawing on a diverse mix of influences, from his African heritage and Belgian upbringing to the Jackson Five, in the late 1980s Charles began to make his mark on the French electro scene. Having worked with the likes of Moby and Step, he took his music to the Paris club scene, including Rex and Queen; Le Café d'Anvers in Belgium; Lotus in New York; and Jet Set in Moscow; and played to audiences of up to 18,000 in Paris, Tokyo, Jakarta and London. In 1996 Pschent Records, the label behind the Hôtel Costes series, signed Charles and his first album was released in 2002.
When not producing, Charles plays at some of the world’s hottest parties. In July 2009, he will perform at the Valentino show before heading to Huvafen Fushi’s shores. As the sound designer to Karl Lagerfeld, Charles played at the 2007 Dom Pérignon party hosted by Lagerfeld and Claudia Schiffer to unveil the new image of Dom Pérignon Œnothèque 1993.
A favourite with fashion creators, he also recently mixed for the haute couture shows of Fendi and Celine during Paris Fashion Week, and designed the musical ambience for all Celine boutiques worldwide. Charles says, “Music is becoming more and more the inspiration for many places, from designer stores to hotels and I am very proud that Huvafen Fushi is embracing this new phenomenon in perfect style.”
Also coming up as part of the Dream Calendar, Stéphane Pompougnac will touch shores and hearts in the Maldives for a second time. The music maestro behind the Hôtel Costes album series, Stéphane performed at Huvafen Fushi last year to rave reviews from guests, when he launched the Hôtel Costes XI album, and is set to return this November.
