Kumho - the tyre of choice for Modec’s revolutionary zero emission CV

The KRS03 features a wide, deep tread pattern for long life and optimum stability, while its newly-developed casing minimises stress points and heat build-up. S-shaped sipes give enhanced wet grip and stone-ejectors improve casing durability.
Modec - ‘green’ from the word go!
Unlike many such ‘green’ initiatives, the Modec is no hasty adaptation of a conventional, normally aspirated vehicle. It was purpose designed with a 102bhp/300Nm electric motor powered by the latest in Sodium Nickel Chloride batteries. Coupled to a regenerative braking system, this results in a range of over 100 miles between charges, a top speed of 50mph and a payload capability of 2 tonnes.
There are currently three models in the Modec range – a bare chassis cab, a flatbed/tipper and a box van. Designed and built in Coventry, the vehicles are of sleek contemporary design, and feature energy absorbing body panels, and car-quality turning circle and cab comfort.
The green/cost saving credentials are impeccable and include zero emissions, zero road tax, zero operator’s licence and zero congestion charging. 98% of the vehicle’s parts are recyclable. It is also very quiet – a bonus for the crew and the environment in which the vehicle operates.
Not surprisingly, the Modec vehicle has sparked enormous interest and 130 had been sold even before production began last month. Tesco have purchased the first 15 of those for their home delivery network, while Hildon Water and PF Whitehead were also among the first to introduce Modec vans to their fleets. There is equally strong interest from a range of local authorities, building contractors, highway maintenance contractors and airport operators.
Said Modec’s Commodity Manager, Graham McIntosh, “Modec are happy to be working with Kumho, who supported us throughout the development stage. Their tyres match the Modec brief, the quality and price, which is vital when our vehicles have to meet the demands of the urban road.”
Added Kumho Tyre (UK)’s Managing Director Steve Tidmarsh, “We are very excited to be involved in such an environmentally friendlyand practical initiative. Jamie Borwick and his experienced and dynamic team are to be applauded for their vision in producing a commercial vehicle that faces the challenge of climate change head-on.”
