Big Brother’s Aisleyne Becomes Patron Of Brain Tumour UK
Every day in the UK, 49 adults and children are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Twenty percent of all cancer patients develop secondary brain tumours. They are the most common solid tumour in children. Their incidence has increased over the last 30 years, yet the prognosis remains bleak. For Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, Brain Tumour UK is a charity close to her heart. Since her teenage years Aisleyne has watched her uncle suffer from a brain tumour diagnosed over 15 years ago. During her time in the Big Brother house Aisleyne then found out that one of her best friends, aged just 28 years, had also received the life-shattering diagnosis of a brain tumour.
“It’s is horrible watching people you care and love suffer. Both Lisa and my uncle are so strong; they continue to be an inspiration throughout their illness. Lisa won’t let anything hold her back – she’s a bubble of enthusiasm and energy” commented Aisleyne.
When she left the Big Brother house Aisleyne was keen to support Brain Tumour UK and to try to make a difference in anyway she could. Over the last year she has been involved in a number of charity events and has been keen to become officially aligned with the charity and a regular contributor to its cause.
She says “When I discovered that Brain Tumour UK received donations of less than £200,000 per year I was shocked and knew I needed to join the team and help raise awareness and money to make a difference to people’s suffering. Compared to other charities Brain Tumour UK’s donations are seriously low although a surprising number of people of all ages and all backgrounds suffer from this often devastating condition.”
Aisleyne recently joined Brain Tumour UK’s running team and pulled on her trainers and racing vest to compete in the London 10k Fun Run. This is just the first step for Aisleyne who plans to host a fundraising evening later in the year for the charity to include a charity auction and celebrity guest list.
Jenny Baker OBE, Chief Executive Brain Tumour UK said:
“Brain Tumour UK is delighted to welcome Aisleyne on board as our newest patron to help us lead by example and inspire others, especially young people who may themselves be living with a brain tumour or others who are planning to help the charity raise much needed funds”.
