moneysupermarket.com crowned best for car insurance
A new survey carried out by Ipsos MORI, an independent market research group, found moneysupermarket.com returned the lowest premiums for nearly twice as many profiles as its nearest rival, and almost six times more than the site ranked last. The mystery shoppers compared 100 quotes for different makes, models and ages of car at postcodes across the nation from the six main comparison sites: moneysupermarket.com, Tesco Compare, Confused, Gocompare, comparethemarket and Uswitch.
A spokesperson for Ipsos MORI said: "Findings from the mystery shopping exercise showed moneysupermarket.com is almost twice as likely to provide the cheapest annual premium for motor insurance compared with other leading comparison sites. In 42 out of 100 tests, it delivered the best, or equal to best, quote in terms of price: this is well ahead of its nearest rival."
The results of this survey reaffirm that moneysupermarket.com is the country's leading comparison site.
Richard Mason, managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Ipsos MORI's findings confirm drivers can rely on and trust moneysupermarket.com to find them the best insurance deals. We obtain quotes from 60 different insurers and insurance brokers which is why we are able to find highly competitive premiums across all areas of the market."
Among the cheapest quotes from moneysupermarket.com were a 15-year old Rover Maestro, a 2004 Maserati Spyder, a three-year old BMW Z4, a 2004 Fiesta and a two-year-old Corsa, illustrating the breadth of its market penetration.
Richard Mason added: "These results show savvy consumers shouldn't rely on those brands spending the most on TV advertising nor their existing favourites to offer the best deals – something the 220,000 drivers who use moneysupermarket.com's motor insurance channel each day, already know."
