Pupils at Westover Green School in Bridgwater got their thinking caps on recently after they were challenged to come up with road names for Taylor Wimpey’s new Wembdon Grange development in Bridgwater.
After receiving a number of excellent entries, Taylor Wimpey and Sedgemoor District Council chose 10 year old Aaron Smith’s creative road names. The two winning names were Bonita Road and Lavinia Road named after boats which used the docks in Bridgwater.
Donna Jolley, teacher at Westover Green School, said: “The children were really excited about being given the opportunity to name the roads on Wembdon Grange. Both Bonita Road and Lavinia Road are excellent names and Aaron is really proud of his suggestions. Everyone really enjoyed being involved with this project and we look forward to working with Taylor Wimpey in the future.”
Dan Donovon, Building Control Manager from Sedgemoor District Council said: “We were really impressed with all the names the children suggested. It was clear that they had all put a lot of hard work and thought into their suggestions. We thought Aaron’s names were really apt as they included history from Bridgwater.”
As a thank you, Taylor Wimpey presented Aaron with a £40 book voucher, and gave runner up, Robyn Gillard a £10 book voucher.
Richard Goad, regional sales and marketing director said, “Taylor Wimpey is committed to supporting the local communities in which we build and, as an important part of that, we like to forge links with local school on projects of this nature. We hope that whenever Aaron or any of the children from Westover Green School walk past the development, they’ll be proud to have been part of its naming.”
