A lesson in history was on the timetable for St Benedicts Junior School when a group of pupils visited Taylor Wimpey Bristol’s Dunstan Park development in Glastonbury.
The on-site tour was part of the house builder’s Changing Lives, Changing Communities campaign – a nationwide curriculum-based schools history project. As part of the campaign pupils were tasked with studying local history and comparing the homes and lifestyles of the Victorians with modern day communities.
The pupils were greeted by production director Alan Morris and received a talk from production manager Pete Donnachie at the marketing suite before donning hard hats and protective jackets for a tour of the site. The school children were able to see for themselves the homes under construction and enjoyed an interactive session on how homebuilding has changed since the Victorian period.
Jo Thyer, teacher at St Benedict’s Junior School said: “We have been doing lots of work in the classroom about different housing so the children really enjoyed comparing the modern day homes with those from the Victorian era. The talk by Pete Donnachie was very informative and the tour was a really fun, yet educational way of learning about how our community is changing.”
Richard Goad, regional sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Bristol said: “Through the Changing Lives, Changing Communities campaign, we wanted to encourage school children to think about the way our homes and lifestyles have evolved over the years. However, during the site visit we were also able to highlight the many similarities between a Victorian street and Dunstan Park, for example, the development’s three story townhouses are similar to those built in the Victorian era.
“Taylor Wimpey is committed to supporting the local communities in which we build and, as an important part of that, we like to forge links with local school on projects of this nature.”
Offering the best of both worlds, Dunstan Park is surrounded by the peace and tranquillity of the countryside but within easy reach of Glastonbury and beyond through excellent road links. The development has homes on offer for every type of purchaser, from starter homes through to spacious four-bedroom homes. Prices start at £144,995.
