New look for prime Sheffield office block

A major refurbishment has been completed at one of Sheffield’s most prestigious and sought after city centre office buildings.

Fountain Precinct, built in the 70s and amongst the first in Sheffield with air conditioning, has opened a new and extended reception area and entrance onto Barkers Pool.

The ultra-modern reception area complements extensive refurbishment of the office space and renewal of the main lifts in Fountain Precinct, attracting some of the area’s top businesses as tenants.

Fountain Precinct – named after the fountain formerly standing at the top of Fargate – was built on the site of the former Grand Hotel, which operated between 1910 and 1971 and offered 300 bedrooms, a lounge with an orchestra, a ballroom and Sheffield's first 'American bar'.

Its replacement was designed to tap into Sheffield's rising commercial fortunes in the Seventies.

Rebecca Schofield, from commercial property consultants Knight Frank, who act as agents for Fountain Precinct, said: “The building has always been attractive to businesses needing high quality office space because of its prominent and accessible location next to restaurants, shops and bars, and the refurbishment has enhanced its appeal even further.

“The multi-storey building totals 112,000 square feet of office space and is home to such companies as engineers Atkins Consultants Ltd, insurance brokers Aon Ltd., the Co-operative Bank PLC and Wrigleys Solicitors, to name but a few.”

Rebecca added: “With the refurbishment of the reception completed, we are expecting plenty of interest in the available accommodation, especially as the economy begins to turn. Available accommodation ranges from 1,700 sq ft upwards, providing modern open-plan floor plates with air conditioning, good natural light and on site car parking.”
