School girl names new Taylor Wimpey development

Taylor Wimpey has named its new development in Coity Pentref Newydd, after enlisting the help of pupils from Coety Primary School to help come up with a name that would fit in with the new development and its beautiful surroundings.

Ten year old Georgina Coombes, who came up with the winning entry, was on hand at the development this week along with runners-up Rhianna Evans, 11, and Danielle Derek, 9, to receive a £200 donation cheque for Coety Primary School and some Toys R Us vouchers from Taylor Wimpey’s sales and marketing director, Sara Taylor.

Georgina beat off stiff competition from the entire school to have her suggestion ‘Pentref Newydd’ selected as the winning name by Britain’s largest house builder.

On winning the competition, ten year old Georgina said: “I’m excited and proud that my suggestion, Pentref Newydd, was chosen as the name for the development. It will be known as that for years so when I am older I will be able to tell my children that I named it.”

Translated Pentref Newydd means New Village and this was something that Georgina felt was important for the Taylor Wimpey development. She continued: “I chose Pentref Newydd because it is a new village and the start of something new for Coity.”

Sara Taylor, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales, said: “The response from the school was amazing with many brilliant suggestions and the final decision proved to be a difficult one. We asked for something that reflected the local community and felt that Georgina’s name most accurately captured what the development is about – creating a new community in Coity.

“We’d like to thank the school for their participation in helping us name the new development, in particular our winner Georgina and runners-up Rhianna Evans, 11, and Danielle Derek, 9.”

Pentref Newydd is part of the Parc Derwen development and is in the village of Coity near Bridgend.
