There’s no question that online selling is an ever-growing factor in the UK economy – but it is generally restricted to lower value transactions from a few pounds to a few hundred.  However, as new data on online sales is revealed by the UK’s leading vehicle auction company, British Car Auctions (BCA), there are buyers willing to invest many thousands to buy luxury cars over the internet.

The top seller online for BCA in 2010 was a Rolls Royce Phantom, which sold for £195,000, with the buyer making the purchase based on a detailed catalogue listing and a handful of photographs.  And this wasn’t an isolated case, as the average price of BCA’s Top ten online sellers was over £113,000.   BCA sold around 100,000 vehicles online during 2010, ranging from cars under £1,000 through to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, though its Live Online and Bid Now and Buy Now services.

“Our customers are comfortable to bid these huge sums with us online because they know we will describe the vehicles fairly and accurately and make sure the deal is concluded successfully, arranging transport and delivery if required” said BCA spokesman, Tim Naylor.  “Buying anything online and unseen is all about confidence in the system and the quality in the service.”
