Lochmaben school kids get a lesson in site safety
Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has this week been giving the local school children of Lochmaben Primary some reminders about health and safety ahead of the two-week October holiday.
And to drive the message home, the company has challenged the pupils to design a Health & Safety poster that helps to demonstrate the dangers of playing near a construction site.
As production at the company’s Barony Gate development gets into full swing, Taylor Wimpey is keen to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site, and raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant during their two-week October holiday.
The company launched a poster competition as part of their Health & Safety presentation at the school assembly on Friday– with the team using this fun method to help reinforce the importance of the children’s safety near construction sites.
Winners of the competition in each of the three categories (P1/ P2; P3/4/5 and P6/7) will each win book tokens and school funds will also benefit. Every entry received will also be laminated and displayed around the site fencing advising the general public to be aware of the dangers and to keep well away.
This type of activity and involvement with local schools has proven an effective deterrent in the past as Steven Laurie, Production Director of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland explains:
“Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to Taylor Wimpey, and taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites. Our fun safety poster competition allows us to deliver a very important message in a fun and interactive way. Having the chance to chat to the children ahead of their October holiday serves as the perfect reminder for the children that building sites are not playgrounds!”
Anne Simpson is Headteacher of Lochmaben Primary School: “I’m delighted to welcome Taylor Wimpey back into our school to highlight the dangers associated with children playing near any construction site. Given the development of new homes on Vendace Drive is now well underway, we will have a significant amount of construction work in the local area for some time. It’s great that Taylor Wimpey understands the importance of our children’s safety, and has created such an interactive and fun approach to appeal to our pupils.”
Barony Gate is open Thursday to Monday 11am-5.30pm.
