Blyth youngsters triumph in Barratt football tournament
Pupils from Horton Grange First School in Blyth came out on top in a five-a-side football tournament organised by Barratt Homes North East.
Four teams – two from Horton Grange and two from Throckley Primary School, Newcastle – took part in the event at Gosforth Park.
The Horton Heroes team from Year 5 won the Barratt Cup and Kieran Garrett, who was top scorer with 19 goals, won the Golden Boot trophy.
Barratt North East is building new homes at Horton Park in Blyth and also in Throckley.
Sales manager Paul Race said: “Wherever we build, we try to contribute to the local community in a variety of ways and we have already established links with these schools which are close to our developments.
“Football has been on everyone’s minds this summer and we thought a five-a-side tournament would be a good way to bring the two schools together.
“Everyone has had a great day and there have been some terrific games, all played in the right spirit. It’s been such a success that we may make it an annual event.”
