Grecian Goddess swimwear trends
Whether we feel or just wish to look like a goddess on the beach this summer, Rigby & Peller is declaring the “Grecian Goddess” a key trend for swimwear SS10.
Grecian draping, one shouldered swimwear and knot/twist detailing are all going to be prominent with the likes of Alexandra Burke already flaunting her fantastic figure in a series of on-trend bikinis this year.
Rigby & Peller Swimwear Buyer Mary McLeod, says: “Draping and the one shoulder look can be flattering for so many figures. One shoulder works particularly well as it draws attention to our shoulders and can enhance the size of our bust with discreet support.
“Draping is also a very effective detail as it takes the eye away from particular areas to new ones. Depending on the placement of the draping, it will give a more defined waist and help with a proportioned hour glass silhouette,” she added.
Other styles to look out for this season include the “Modern Retro” with references from the 1950s and 60s but with a futuristic twist using modern innovations and fabrics.
Padded, underwired half cups are back with a vengeance and give uplift and support to the bust which is good news for fuller cups and will also enhance the look of a smaller bust. Retro briefs this year are cut slightly higher on the waist. This style is perfect for the boyish figures such as Kiera Knightley as it helps to create the look of a nipped in waist, giving more of an hour glass silhouette.
“We are using a lot of textured fabrics in vertical panels and geometric segments,” added Mary. “This is a really flattering technique as it can elongate parts of our body and draw the eye to the smaller part our silhouette. This works really well for all body shapes but particularly with more rounded ones.”
For those who really want to make a statement in the sun then “New Age Nautical” and “New Rave Jungle” are set to become mainstream must-haves this summer. Kelly Brook has already been spotted in a flattering striped damson two piece with Cindy Crawford opting for an eye-catching animal print bikini.
Royal blue and vibrant indigo, right through to shades of damson are dominant colours for SS10 and these are really wearable shades for all skin tones and will show off a hard earned holiday tan to its best!
The New Rave Jungle trend pits animal prints with vibrant background colours and contemporary giraffe prints; whilst ivory will be especially on trend when teamed with eye catching gold metallics.
“This is a key trend to tap into if you want to show everyone your swimwear is right up to date,” confirms Mary.
