Dudley Castle, which dates back to 1066, is one of the most haunted Castles in Britain. Many visitors to the ruins have experienced paranormal activity over the years. “The Grey Lady” otherwise known as Dorothy Beaumont, has been seen wandering mournfully around the main grounds and old chapel. Many have witnessed the ghostly spectre of a Monk dressed in a black habit whose presence terrifies staff and visitors. The Chapel Undercroft, with its stone coffins and haunted armour, is the most haunted location in the Castle and where many have witnessed intense poltergeist activity.
The audience will begin the evening by meeting the ‘Reverend Cox’ who will take them on a sinister journey as he entertains and terrifies them with historic tales of ghosts, hauntings and folklore of the Black Country. Throughout the journey the audience will follow the life and times of Reverend Cox and his startling encounters with the mysterious and horrific ‘Spring Heeled Jack’ renowned for skulking at night and leaping out on young women and old men to scare them.
Students from the Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham have been involved in this special performance. The College, recognised as a Centre of Vocational Excellence, specialises in the performing arts. The students have created a special ten-minute performance designed on their visits to Dudley Castle and its alleged hauntings.
