The ultimate Swiss experience: Basel to Gstaad

10th July 2007 Print
Les Trois Rois Located in the centre of Basel, one of Europe’s most culturally interesting metropolis, the Les Trois Rois hotel, an 1844 grande dame situated on the banks of the Rhine, has re-opened after a 20-month renovation. A tribute to the sumptuousness of Belle Epoche grand hotels, Les Trois Rois exudes the unmistakeable elegance and charm of ‘old’ Europe.

With nostalgic interiors and fabulous river views, Les Trois Rois is once again the most prominent address in town.

Featuring one of Europe’s best preserved Old Towns, Basel nevertheless has an edgier feel to it than other Swiss cities. The Basel of today is surprisingly liberal, creative and multicultural and home to some fantastic architecture and art galleries. The city will also host the opening match of the upcoming Euro 2008 football championship.

Whilst staying at Les Trois Rois, why not:

- Take an architectural / historic city tour through Basel
- Visit the art museum Foundation Beyeler
- Take a pleasure boat on River Rhein
- Enjoy gourmet dining
- Explore the nightlife of Basel

In contrast to the historic Les Trois Rois, the contemporary Grand Hotel Bellevue located in the picturesque Swiss mountain resort of Gstaad is the contemporary sister hotel. With its two award-winning gourmet restaurants, its sensual and elegant designer bedroom suites, a zen-inspired spa and the trendy Porsche 911 Bar, the privately-owned Grand Hotel Bellevue is an inspirational and luxurious retreat.

Gstaad is mostly known as a ski resort for the rich and famous, but offers something to suit visitors of every age and ability during out of skiing season - from Alpine adventures such as white water rafting, paragliding or climbing, to more gentle outdoor pursuits including hiking and golf. During the summer months, Gstaad also hosts high-profile sports and cultural events like Beach Volleyball Championship, Swiss Open Tennis Tournament, Polo Cup, Menuhin Classical Music Festival and the Saveurs Gourmet Week.

Things to do in Gstaad include:

- Alpine adrenalin activity like white water rafting / paragliding
- Relaxing and pampering in the Bellevue spa
- Wholesome traditional Swiss food as well as gourmet dining
- Lots of fresh air and fun!
