Daffodil School revisited
Miller Homes' ‘Scholars Way' development in Windle, St Helens, recently welcomed some very important visitors. Seven children and four teachers from Lansbury Bridge School were given a guided tour of the development and show homes, as part of a nostalgic visit. The new ‘Scholars Way' development is being built on the site of the old Hamblett School, where some of the seven children used to attend. The Hamblett School, a special needs school, catered for around 70 children and was affectionately known as the ‘Daffodil School' because of the blanket of colour the daffodils provided at the front of the school on Rainford Road every spring. When the Hamblett merged with the Hurst school in 2004 it was relocated to new premises and became the Lansbury Bridge school.
Mrs Lea, a teacher at Lansbury Bridge School, said: "It was so lovely to take the children back to the old Hamblett School site. It's very different to what it was and it was great fun working out where everything used to be and what stands there now. The Miller Homes' staff were wonderful and made us all feel very welcome."
