Jackanory Returns To Muddle Earth

27th November 2006 Print
Jackanory Returns to CBBC CBBC unveils a new-look Jackanory for the 21st century with the story of Muddle Earth, narrated by John Sessions. Muddle Earth, which will also be broadcast simultaneously on BBC One, is a hilarious and tongue-in-cheek homage to The Lord Of The Rings. It tells the tale of ordinary schoolboy Joe Jefferson, for whom life is about to change beyond recognition.

Joe's home is a mad house! He has to get out but, if his English essay isn't finished on Monday morning, there'll be serious trouble. And so Joe finds himself in the park with Henry the dog – Henry is standing stock still, the hairs along his back are on end and his ears and nose are twitching.

Suddenly, Joe is pulled by Henry into a large rhododendron bush and tumbles head first down a long tunnel. He lands with a thump on a tiled floor and peers out into a dimly lit room. He has arrived in Muddle Earth, summoned by a spell from Randalf the Wise, who thinks he is a warrior-hero. All Joe needs now is some armour for the "small" task that lies ahead.

Stunning new CGI techniques transport the storyteller into a world of ogres and goblins, batbirds and pink stinky hogs, flying cupboards and exploding gas frogs, making this a truly modern adventure for today's young viewers.

Jackanory begins this evening, Monday 27th November, 4.30-4.45pm on CBBC/BBC One.

The story continues on CBBC/BBC One on Wednesday 29 November and Friday 1 December.
