First Iveco Stralis joins Eddie Stobart fleet
Iveco distributor Kerr & Smith has delivered the first Stralis Active Space tractor unit into the Eddie Stobart stable of commercial vehicles, arguably the most recognisable fleet of trucks in the UK.Based at the company’s Glasgow depot, the Stralis AS440S43TX/P is being used for nationwide general haulage, operating at 44 tonnes with a tri-axle curtainsided trailer.
Its arrival marks the first of Iveco’s award winning vehicles to join the current Stobart fleet, having been supplied on a three year contract hire deal which will see it cover approximately 160,000 km a year.
"I’m confident the Stralis will attract a lot of attention, and we will be closely monitoring its performance over the next 12 months, especially in terms of fuel economy, reliability and driver comfort," says William Stobart, Managing Director.
The Stralis 6x2, bearing the name ‘Tammie Luan’, is fitted with a mid-steering axle and is powered by Iveco’s 10.3 litre Cursor 10 engine, which is capable of producing up to 430 hp between 1,590 and 2,100 rev/min and up to 1,900 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,590 rev/min. This proven Iveco engine guarantees sufficient power for even the most demanding general haulage operations.
The Stralis also benefits from Iveco’s fully automated EuroTronic 12 speed gearbox, with its floor-mounted gear selector which can be quickly rotated through 180 degrees to make room for easy cross cab access.
For maximum driver comfort the Active Space cab features a totally flat cab floor sitting just 1,700 mm above the road, making access easy. Inside, the cab configuration features an air-sprung driver’s seat which adjusts for reach, height and rake, full lower bunk and a passenger seat. Other features include a storage compartment for the TV, cool-box, air-conditioning and a panel above the bunk for controlling essential interior features such as lighting and the night heater.
