CJ Bird takes off with two new 13-litre Volvo FH’s
CJ Bird Transport, based in Tonyrefail, South Wales, have taken delivery of two new 4x2 FH tractor units - one of the first companies in the area to do so."I chose Volvo for a number of reasons," explains CJ Bird Managing Director Chris Bird. "First and foremost is the excellent service and back-up we get from Volvo’s Bridgend depot, far better than anywhere else in my opinion. The price was right at the time and we get good fuel consumption from our Volvo’s."
Ordered from the Avonmouth depot of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Wales and West, the powerful 520bhp artics have been specified the Volvo Engine Brake and I-Shift, Volvo’s class-leading automated gear changing system. The trucks both have Globetrotter XL cabs, boasting a host of extras including ‘Prestige’ trim with leather seats and trim, CD/radio audio package, fridges and TV brackets.
"I chose the I-Shift gearbox as a cost saver, both in terms of fuel and clutch wear, and they make the drivers’ lives much easier," he added.
The company has also specified a Jost low height, non-grease fifth wheel.
Plated for 40 tonne GCW operation, the trucks will be used on general haulage contracts from CJ Bird’s Mid Glamorgan base across the UK and Europe. They join the company’s now 23-strong mixed fleet, of which almost 50% are Volvo.
