Bellway starts work on 200 homes at The Maltings in Barleythorpe
A development of 200 homes in Barleythorpe has opened its doors, signalling the start of a new phase in a major housing scheme for Rutland.
Bellway Homes is building the homes on land between Main Road in Barleythorpe and Oakham bypass.
It is part of the wider Oakham North development which will create 1,100 new homes in the area.
The Maltings showhome opened with a champagne reception for invited guests.
Bellway Homes sales manager Jane Yolland said: “We were lucky with the weather and were pleased with the turnout for the launch.
“We’ve had some really positive feedback so far and have already been selling homes off plan.
“The larger properties in particular have attracted a lot of interest from families looking for more space.”
The Maltings will include one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. There will be 35 affordable homes, which will be a mixture of rented and shared ownership.
Sales advisor Keely Nixon grew up in Rutland and has returned to the county for her new role.
She said: “It’s fantastic to be back in Rutland and Barleythorpe is a beautiful place to come to work every day.
“The sales office has been getting busier as more people have learned we are here and we’ve had a steady stream of visitors to the showhome since it opened.”
The Maltings is accessed off Main Road, Barleythorpe, close to the roundabout which joins the village and the A606.
The showhome is open from Thursday to Monday from 10.30am to 5pm, with late opening on Thursdays until 7.30pm.
