Taylor Wimpey Northolt starts bridge improvements
A footbridge crossing the Grand Union Canal is being replaced as part of a Taylor Wimpey project in association with the Grand Union Village development of new homes in Northolt.
Work has started on a Taylor Wimpey funded improvement scheme to replace an ageing footbridge across the Grand Union Canal at the leading housebuilder’s Grand Union Village development of properties in Northolt.
On Sunday 17th March, specialist contractor JLES Group, working on behalf of Taylor Wimpey, removed a 27-metre bridge from a site adjacent to the sought-after development of new homes for sale in Northolt.
During the day, access was restricted to the surrounding roads and footpaths and to a stretch of the canal while a crane was employed to lift the 1960s ‘Usk’ bridge from its abutments. The structure was then cut into three sections before it was loaded onto trucks and transported away from the site.
The improvements are part of Taylor Wimpey’s planning obligations for the Grand Union Village development of properties for sale in Northolt and are expected to be completed in about six months time when a new bridge is installed.
Richard Adams, Commercial Manager for Taylor Wimpey Northolt, says: “While the business of actually removing the old bridge was successfully finished in just a few hours, we were a long time preparing for the big day.
“It was a complicated procedure and we had a lot of bases to cover, from traffic and pedestrian management to informing residents about the project, from landscaping work to site safety – and, of course, the actual lift itself!
“We actually started planning the work in earnest with JLES Group back in October 2012, so we are delighted to have completed the removal of the bridge.
“The next stage of the project will see the results of a sub soil investigation used to inform our full technical plans for the new footbridge, which we hope to have in place by October 2013.”
The bridge improvement works are being carried out as Taylor Wimpey’s Grand Union Village development nears completion. There’s a final selection of three-bedroom homes available to purchase from £300,000 at Canal View, Grand Union Village, located off Taywood Road, Northolt.
