Taking the biscuit... and making it locally

Known for its waxed organic cheese (and aversion to food miles), Godminster, which is based in Bruton, Somerset, is adding locally produced savoury biscuits made with locally grown ingredients, such as flour from Stoates of Shaftesbury, to its range.

Hand-made by a local baker within four miles of Godminster's farm, the new biscuits will be baked using oats and rosemary grown on the Godminster Farm.  Both the oaty digestive biscuits and rosemary water biscuits will be available as part of Godminster's popular party packs.

Godminster's owner Richard Hollingbery said; "We decided to launch our own range of hand-made biscuits to complement the Godminster cheeses and chutneys, so whether you're eating the biscuits with cheese, or dunking them in our delicious chutney, you can do so knowing that not only are they hand-made to our exacting standards, but that they have incurred as few food miles as possible.

We also believe that it's really important to support local artisan producers and to ensure that small businesses continue to remain vibrant, therefore we constantly strive to have as many of our products made as locally as possible."

Godminster Party Packs, which include a 400g round vintage organic creamy cheddar, a 235g kilner jar of beetroot and apple chutney, a 220g packet of digestive biscuits and a 135g packet of rosemary water biscuits, cost £31.95, including postage and packaging, and are available from godminster.com.

Godminster's mantra is a simple one - nature repays those who treat her kindly - from the rolling fertile pasture and grazing herd of Friesian dairy cows to the organic soil and rambling orchards, Mother Nature is at the core of Godminster Farm.  By looking after her, the unsurpassable organic raw ingredients are readily available to create a delicious range of high-quality organic foods - all incredibly familiar, yet twisted tastefully into the unique.
